Create the Magic Behind the Curtain
Not every theatre kid wants to be in the spotlight—and some discover
that their favorite place in the theatre is behind it.
Crew Club is Ignite’s hands-on technical theatre program where students
explore the backstage side of bringing a production to life.
From sets and props to lights, sound, costumes, and backstage crew,
students learn real theatre skills while discovering just how many people
and ideas it takes to create the magic audiences see onstage.

It Takes More Than Performers
When the curtain goes up, the audience sees the actors.
But behind them is an entire team making the production happen.
Crew Club introduces students to the creative, technical, and collaborative work that brings theatre to life. Students learn by doing—exploring different areas of technical theatre while developing practical skills and working together as a crew.

Discover the World Behind the Stage.
🔨 SETS & SCENERY
Explore how theatrical worlds are created through set building, painting, scenery, and the creative process of transforming a space.
🎭 PROPS
Learn how props support storytelling and explore the process of creating, organizing, maintaining, and using them in a production.
💡 LIGHTING
Discover how lighting can completely change a scene, create atmosphere, focus attention, and help tell the story.
🎚️ SOUND
Explore the role sound plays in live theatre and begin learning how music, microphones, effects, and audio support a production.
👗 COSTUMES & BACKSTAGE
Learn how costumes are organized and managed while discovering the systems that keep performers and productions moving backstage.
🎬 RUNNING THE SHOW
Explore scene changes, transitions, backstage responsibilities, theatre safety, communication, and what it takes for a crew to keep a performance running smoothly.
No previous technical theatre experience is required.

Crew Club isn’t just about learning
what happens backstage. Students
have opportunities to connect what they’re learning to the real work of creating theatre at Ignite.
As appropriate, Crew Club members
may work alongside our production
team, contribute to projects, help
prepare production elements, and see how technical theatre skills are used
in an actual theatrical environment.
That hands-on experience helps students understand something important:
